Men's Lacrosse Bested by Lycoming, 12-4

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-4 loss to Lycoming on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in MAC Commonwealth play.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Warriors improve to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

The Warriors struck first to make it 1-0 just 11 seconds into the game after winning the opening faceoff and charging down into their offensive zone. Sophomore Ethan Gain would tie the game at the 10:08-mark of the first quarter following a pass from classmate Alex Miller, but could not sustain momentum as the Warriors scored 2:02 later to take the lead back at 2-1. Lycoming would notch one more goal in the first quarter as they extended its lead to 3-1 at the 4:34-mark before making it a 4-1 game just 52 seconds into the second quarter. The Lions would force the Warriors into five turnovers over the next eight minutes to keep the score the same, and Miller would cut the lead down to 4-2 on an unassisted goal at the 5:58-mark. However, the Warriors would counter 28 seconds later to make it 5-2 before scoring with 0.9 seconds left in the first half to bring the score to 6-2.

Lycoming extended the lead to 7-2 at the 13:13-mark following a Lions turnover, and would continue to control play in the first portion of the third quarter. Albright then started to make a rally past midway through the third quarter as freshman Alex McKendry found the back of the net at the 5:20-mark before Miller followed at the 3:46-mark to make it 7-4. The Warriors would burn the Lions in the final minute again with another goal, this time coming with 12 seconds left in the third quarter to go back up 8-4. Lycoming then squashed any possible Lion rally with two goals in the first 2:13 of the fourth quarter to bring the score to 10-4. The Warriors would finish the game with two more goals as they outshot the Lions 13-2 in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors held a 38-20 shot advantage for the game, and a 23-13 advantage in shots on goal. Lycoming also held a 55-33 advantage in ground balls for the game, and won 16 of the 19 face offs. The Lions did force 29 Warrior turnovers, with sophomore Connor Graser matching the program single-game record of caused turnovers with six. Gain and Miller led the Lions with three points as Miller notched two goals and one assist, while Gain had one goal and two assists. Senior goalkeeper Conor Scafidi suffered the loss after making 11 saves. Warrior goalkeeper Michael Tenant earned the win after making nine saves and allowing just four goals.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday, April 6th as they will continue MAC Commonwealth play by traveling to Messiah for a 7 p.m. contest.
