GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team suffered a 19-6 loss to Messiah on Saturday night in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 0-10 overall on the season and 0-4 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Falcons improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Goalies ruled the game in the first quarter as the contest remained scoreless until the final minute of the game. Albright started having long offensive possessions towards the end of the first quarter, and cashed in with 56 seconds left to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore

Alex Miller found him in front of the net. However, the Falcons responded by scoring seven goals in the first seven minutes of the second quarter. Messiah tied the game just seven seconds into the quarter, and scored two goals within 10 seconds of each other to take a 3-1 lead at the 11:19-mark. A turnover in the Lions defensive zone led to the Falcons fourth goal at the 9:25-mark before they added two more within seven seconds of each other to go up 6-1 at the 8:41-mark. The Lions were able to hold the score at 7-1 for the final eight minutes of the first half.
The Falcons carried the second quarter momentum into the second half as they scored their eighth goal a minute in. Messiah took advantage of another Lions turnover to score again to go up 9-1 at the 11:25-mark of the third quarter, but freshman
Cole Genneken snapped the Falcon goal run with his first of the game at the 9:31-mark. However, the Falcons responded by scoring three goals in a span of 1:02 to go up 12-2. Messiah put together another long offensive possession that resulted in six shots taken but no more goals on the board. The Lions did have a strong end of the third quarter as they scored three unanswered goals in the final 2:10. Sophomore
Carson Babcock opened the run with an unassisted goal before Genneken added his second just 48 seconds later. Sophomore
Ryan Wilburn tallied the third goal of the run with five seconds left in the third quarter. Messiah closed the game out by scoring six-straight goals to begin the fourth quarter to take their largest lead of the game at 17-5. Freshman
Terrell Ringgold scored the last goal for the Lions at the 5:49-mark of the fourth quarter.
Messiah held a 50-35 shot advantage for the game, and a 50-30 advantage in ground balls. The Falcons also won 21 of the 28 face offs. Genneken led the Lions with two goals, while Gain led with three points behind two assists and one goal. Freshman
Alex McKendry also added an assist in the contest. Senior goalkeeper
Conor Scafidi suffered the loss after making nine saves in the full 60 minutes. The Falcons goalkeepers split time with Beau McCarver earning the win after making eight saves in 25:27 of action, while Evan Stoker made four saves in 34:33.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, April 10
th as they will host Hood in MAC Commonwealth play at 7 p.m.
