Baseball Pulls Away From Delaware Valley in 15-4 Win

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (8-16) pulled away in the late innings en route to a 15-4 win over the Delaware Valley Aggies (7-18) in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Kelchner Field in Reading.

Albright tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-4 and broke the game open with eight runs in the eighth. In the afore-mentioned eighth inning, senior Joe Suppa plated a pair with a two-run single, junior Logan Pennypacker knocked in a run with an RBI triple, senior Jeff Yordy came through with an RBI double and senior Jack Shevlin added an RBI single in the frame.

The Lions opened the scoring with four runs in the home half of the second as Shevlin led off with a double and later scored on Brandon Daubert's RBI double, while Suppa added an RBI single and a pair of Delaware Valley errors allowed two more runs to score. The Aggies got a pair back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2 including an RBI triple from Ryan Schuetrumpf. Freshman Josh Jacavage answered for Albright with a solo shot in the home half of the frame, but Delaware Valley added a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3. The home run was Jacavage's third of the season, which is tied for the team lead along with Yordy.

Luke Hendricks led off the sixth for the Aggies with a double, stole third and scored on Josh Adamski's RBI single to make it a one-run game at 5-4. Following a bunt single from Kevin Johnson, Delaware Valley had the bases loaded with nobody out, but sophomore right-hander Nick Cummings got Joey Lodato to fly to right and Timmy Lallis grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Suppa plated a run via an RBI single in the home half of the frame and Jacavage added a sac fly to give the hosts a 7-4 lead.

Cummings (1-0) allowed a run on three hits while fanning a pair over 2 2/3 IP to earn the win for Albright. Joe McGlade (0-3) gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits to go along with two walks in 3 1/3 IP and was dealt the loss for the Aggies.

Jacavage (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R), Pennypacker (2-4, 3B, RBI, 3 SB, 2 R), Shevlin (2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Suppa (4-5, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R) all registered multi-hit games for the Lions, while LHPs Daron Pijanowski (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) and Tyler Nicoletto (1.0 IP, H, K) tossed scoreless innings in relief. Suppa is the first Albright player to record four hits in a game since Jimmie Gentry tallied four on March 31, 2018 at Stevenson.

Albright opens a key MAC Commonwealth series at crosstown rival Alvernia on Friday afternoon with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
