GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set (25-7, 25-15, 25-15) match to Arcadia on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-4 on the season overall and 0-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Knights improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play after snapping a four-game losing streak.
Freshman
Grace Andrefski led the Lions with a team-high six kills, while tallying two blocks and three digs. Juniors
Paige Westra and
Brooke Franklin each tallied three kills with Westra adding five digs. Junior
Kaitlyn Chell led the Lions with 14 digs and freshman
Shelby Cheuvront added 10 digs. Junior
Alexa Poss paced the offense with 17 assists and picked up a pair of service aces as well.
The teams would trade points to open the first set as the score was tied at four following a kill from Chell. However, the Knights would reel off seven-straight points to go up 11-4 behind four kills. A kill from Franklin would break up the run, but Arcadia answered this time with five-straight points to go up 16-5 behind four kills. The Lions brouHght the score down to 17-7 before the Knights closed the first set out with eight-straight points.
The Lions started strong in the second set as they took the first four points to go up 4-0. Albright would maintain a 6-3 lead before the Knights came back with four-straight points to go up 7-6. An attack error from Arcadia tied the score at seven, but the Knights would continue momentum by taking five of the next six points to take a 12-8 lead. Albright would get within three points at 14-11 following an ace from Poss, but that would be as close as they would get to the Knights in the second set as Arcadia took six of the next eight points to take a 20-13 lead. Arcadia would close the second set out by winning five of the last seven points.
Arcadia opened the third set by winning the first three points before the Lions struck back with four-straight points to go up 4-3 after a trio of attack errors from the Knights. Albright would use another error from the Knights to take a 7-6 lead before going up 9-7 after a bad set. However, that would be the last lead they would hold in the game as the Knights took six of the next seven points to go up 13-10. Arcadia followed by taking seven of the next nine points to take a 20-12 lead before closing out the game with a 25-15 win in the third set.
Lauren Enfield led the Knights with a game-high 11 kills, while Maddie Sehrt added eight kills.
Albright will return to action on Saturday, September 21
st as they will compete in the Cairn Tri-Match against the Highlanders at 11 a.m., and Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m.
