Volleyball Sweeps Cheyney and Rosemont in Tri-Match

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's volleyball team picked up a pair of straight-set wins over Cheyney and Rosemont in the Rosemont Tri-Match on Friday night.
 
With the wins, the Lions improve to 6-5 overall as they complete their final tri-match of the season. Meanwhile, former Division II member Cheyney falls to 0-4 and the Ravens drop to 1-13 overall.
 
Freshman Shelby Cheuvront registered 11 aces against the Ravens which matches the most single-game aces of any sets. Junior Paige Westra already matched that total in the season opener against Penn State Schuylkill. Cheuvront also recorded six digs against the Ravens, and added one service ace against the Wolves. Freshman Grace Andrefski led the Lions with a combined 15 kills with eight coming against the Wolves. Andrefski also tallied three blocks against the Ravens. Westra posted a combined 14 kills with eight kills coming against the Wolves. Sophomore Grace Serafin recorded a career-high eight kills against the Ravens, and tallied 13 for the day. Serafin also had eight service aces against the Wolves, and a combined five assists. Junior Brooke Franklin posted a combined 11 kills, while classmate Alexa Poss paced the offense with a combined 39 assists.
 
Cheyney held a 2-1 lead early in the first set before the Lions won 10 of the next 11 points to go up 11-3. Albright would go up 16-4 behind three-straight aces from Serafin, and would close out the first set with the final nine points to win 25-5. The Lions started red-hot in set two as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind three kills from Westra. The Wolves would get within five points at 13-8, but the Lions would win the final 12 points to take set two at 25-8. Franklin tallied four aces during the run, while Andrefski and Westra tallied two kills each. Cheyney opened the third set with the first three points, but the Lions reeled off nine-straight points with seven of them coming from kills. Up 11-5, the Lions recorded five-straight points to go up 16-5. Albright would close out the set and game by winning the last nine points to take set three at 25-7. Albright finished with a .473 hitting percentage as a team behind a .550 percentage in the second set. Andrefski recorded a team-best .778 hitting percentage.
 
 The Lions would keep their red-hot hitting rolling against the Ravens as they took an early 6-1 lead before eventually going up by a sizable margin at 20-2 behind 14-straight points. Seven of the 14-straight points came from aces by Cheuvont. Albright would eventually take the first set at 25-6. Albright tallied a .667 hitting percentage in the first set. Rosemont took a 3-1 lead early in set two, but the Lions would strike back with four-straight kills from Serafin. Albright would then go up 12-4 behind six-straight points. The Lions would hold at least an eight point lead the rest of the second set as they would close the set out with a 25-14 win. Much like the second set, the Ravens started the third set with the early advantage at 4-1. The Lions would claw back to tie the game at five, but would not take the lead for the first time until they went up 13-12. The teams battled back and forth as the score moved to being locked at 17-all before the Lions finally took command up 22-18. Serafin would finish off the Ravens with a kill to take set three at 25-21.
 
Albright will return to action on Tuesday, October 1st as they will travel to face Lycoming in MAC Commonwealth play at 7 p.m.
