SCRANTON, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team traveled to Marywood University for their fourth consecutive away contest and after a team effort and a goal from
Autumn Bieber, the Lions came away with a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lions improve to a 2-2 record and the Pacers fall to 1-2.
Despite numerous scoring opportunities in the first half of the game, neither the Lions nor the Pacers were able to get on the board. Albright registered six shots and four corner kicks, while the Pacers tallied four shots and one corner kick after 45 minutes. Albright sophomore goalkeeper
Olivia Donkus had two saves within the first half to keep the game scoreless.
In the 62
nd minute of the game, a Marywood handball in the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Lions. Bieber was unable to convert, as Pacers' goalkeeper Bella DiToma made the save.
Just three minutes later, Bieber redeemed herself and got Albright on the board after a quick counterattack from the Lions. Junior
Lauren Haley was on the assist, after being fed a ball to the left corner of Pacers' territory. Haley crossed to Bieber at the top of the box, who one-timed the ball with her left foot to the far post, putting Albright up 1-0.
The Lions outshot the Pacers by a slim margin of 13-9 and a shot on goal margin of 6-3. Donkus totaled three saves on the day and Marywood's DiToma made five. Bieber led the Lions in shots with four, followed by Haley with three.
The Lions will host Wesley College on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for their home opener at 7 p.m.
