BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Albright men's and women's swimming teams competed at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday morning for the first meet of 2020. The men's team defeated Washington (Md.) 169-85 and the women's team fell to Bryn Mawr 141-113 and Washington (Md.) 174-76.
With the victory, the men's team improves to 5-1 on the season as the Lions won 11 of the 14 events. Junior
Chris Laite led the team with four wins on the day from two individual and two relays. Individually, the junior took the 200 freestyle in 1:48.93 and the 100 freestyle in 49.02. The 400 medley relay of sophomore Joe Guiliano, junior
Corey Hausler, junior
Bryce Schaffer, and Laite finished first to the wall in 3:37.62. Senior
Maliq Williams, Guiliano, junior
Harrison Hunsberger, and Laite swam a time of 1:29.62 for the victory and the fifth fastest time in the MAC currently.
Three Lions swam season-bests in the 1000 free and earned top-10 times in the MAC. Senior
Teag Culver won the event in 10:06.88 for the fourth fastest time in the MAC. Hunsberger took second in the meet in 10:10.94, ranking sixth in the MAC currently, and senior
Nicholas Cancino grabbed fourth place today in 10:25.92 for the 9
th fastest in the MAC. Culver added a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.88, ranking 5
th in the MAC.
Hausler earned victories in both breaststroke events, taking the 100 in 1:03.53 and the 200 in 2:20.91. First-year
Drew MacDonald took second in both races after clocking a 1:05.25 in the 100 and 2:22.65 in the 200. Schaffer also came home with two individual wins with a 1:52.13 in the 200 butterfly and 51.23 in the 100 butterfly. The junior's time from today in the 100 ranks second in the MAC at the moment and his season-best of 1:52.11 ranks first in the MAC for the 200 butterfly.
On the women's side, the Lions fell to both Bryn Mawr and Washington (Md.) while being led by juniors
Juli Hyatt and
Maggie Jones. Hyatt took the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.80 and Jones won the 50 freestyle after clocking a 26.26.
Senior
Sammy Murphy earned second place in the 200 freestyle (2:05.04) and the 100 freestyle (58.44). The 200 freestyle relay of first-year
Megan Misurelli, Murphy, Jones, and Hyatt swam to a second-place finish in 1:46.57.
The Albright swimming teams will host Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Jan. 25 for a 1 p.m. meet.
