Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away From Bridgewater, 16-7

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team used a dominant second half to pick up a 16-7 win over Bridgewater in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.

With the win, the Lions even their record at 1-1 to bounce back from its season opening loss to Cabrini. Meanwhile, the Eagles of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) fall to 1-1 overall.

Bridgewater opened the scoring at the 27:45-mark of the first half on their first offensive possession of the game, but the Lions reeled off five-straight goals to go up 5-1 at the 20:45-mark. Sophomore Taylor Filmer opened the scoring for the Lions at the 25:08-mark, and was followed by first-year Abigail Hai just over two minutes later to make it 2-1. The Lions scored three goals in a span of 1:03 from Filmer, senior Kelly Baumann, and first-year Chloe Fornoff. The Eagles broke the run at the 17:47-mark with a goal to make it 5-2, and neither team would score again until Fornoff picked up her second goal at the 2:37-mark of the first half to bring the score to 6-2. The Eagles responded 55 seconds later to make it 6-3, and nearly scored in the final seconds after the Lions turned it over on a clear attempt.

Sophomore Lauren China put the Lions up 7-3 at the 28:22-mark of the second half before the Eagles responded with a goal at the 26:57-mark. Albright netted two goals in a span of 16 seconds to go up 9-4 at the 26:03-mark. Sophomore Ashleigh Tortorice scored her first goal of the season before Filmer followed with her third of the game following a yellow card. The Eagles cut the Lions lead down to 9-5 at the 24:32-mark, but Albright responded again to go up 10-5 at the 21:28-mark off a free position shot goal from China. Bridgewater netted a free position shot goal of their own to make it 10-6 before the Lions took control of the game with four-straight goals to go up 14-6 at the 12:46-mark. Filmer picked up a pair of assists on the first two goals of the run as she found China and Hai on back-to-back possessions.  China then continued her red-hot second half with a pair of goals to conclude the run. Baumann and China each added one more goal after the Eagles scored at the 10:09-mark of the second half to seal the win at 16-7.

The Lions held a 35-26 shot advantage for the game, and a 27-18 advantage in shots on goal. Albright also held a 26-22 edge in ground balls, and a 14-10 advantage in draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Terae Mason picked up the win after making 11 saves in the full 60 minutes, while Mikaela Brooks suffered the loss after making 11 saves of her own in 60 minutes. China finished with a career-high six goals, while Baumann posted seven points behind two goals and five assists. Filmer finished with five points behind three goals and two assists.
