BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team used a complete performance on both sides of the ball to pick up a decisive 16-1 win over Bryn Athyn on Saturday night in non-conference play.
With the win, the Lions improve to 1-2 overall on the season. Meanwhile, Bryn Athyn drops to 0-2 on the season after its opening week of games.
Albright jumped on Bryn Athyn early as they scored two goals in the first 1:46 of the contest, both by junior
John Gilbert. The Lions continued to control possession throughout the first quarter as they forced turnovers on five-straight Bryn Athyn possessions. Sophomore
Cole Genneken extended the Lions lead to 3-0 at the 7:38-mark of the first quarter, and classmate
Eric Broadway followed just over a minute later with his first goal of the game to put the Lions up 4-0. Genneken notched his second goal of the game at the 2:10-mark to make it a 5-0 game before Gilbert scored his third of the quarter with eight seconds left to put the Lions up 6-0. Bryn Athyn ended the run with their lone goal of the game at the 8:08-mark of the second quarter, making it a 6-1 contest. Sophomore
Jacob Cunningham put Albright back up six goals at the 5-minute mark, and Genneken followed with his third goal of the game on a man-up opportunity just 48 seconds later. Albright then capitalized on a Bryn Athyn turnover in their own zone as Genneken scored again to put the Lions up 9-1 with 2:33 left in the first half. Albright preserved its lead into halftime by forcing a pair of Bryn Athyn turnovers in the final two minutes.
The Lions extended their lead to 10-1 at the 6:58-mark of the third quarter on a goal from sophomore
Alex McKendry. Genneken capped a long possession late in the third quarter with his fifth goal of the game to put Albright up 11-1, while
Aiden Trainer-Mollenkopf needed just eight seconds to make it a 12-1 game on goal following a quick ground ball pickup after the faceoff. Genneken scored his last goal of the game on a man-up opportunity at the 14:17-mark of the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 13-1. Following a long possession from Bryn Athyn, McKendry tallied his second of the game to make it 14-1 at the 10:07-mark. Sophomore
Terrell Ringgold scored his first goal of the season to put the Lions up 15-1 with 6:04 left in regulation, and first-year
James Favieri put the finishing touches on the win with his first collegiate goal at the 4:47-mark.
Albright held a dominant 59-10 shot advantage, and a 32-3 edge in shots on goal. The Lions forced 33 Bryn Athyn turnovers, and held a 49-27 edge in ground balls. Albright won 15 of the 19 faceoffs, and went 4-of-8 on extra-man opportunities. A pair of first-year goalkeepers split the 30 minutes for Albright with
Liam Ferry earning his first collegiate win after making just one save.
Ethan Hinman concluded the game with one save in the final 30 minutes. Bryn Athyn goalkeeper Wyatt King suffered the loss after making 16 saves in the full 60 minutes. Eight different Lions scored on the afternoon, led by Genneken with seven points behind six goals and one assist. Gilbert tallied three goals, while Cunningham and McKendry each tallied three points. Connor Graser led the team with a game-high seven ground balls.
