Field Hockey Takes Down Eastern, 5-1

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Behind five goals from five different scorers, the Albright field hockey team earned a dominant 5-1 win over Eastern on the road in MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Eagles fall to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
 
Albright jumped on the Eagles early in the first quarter and scored their first goal in the fourth minute as first-year Chelsea Johnson netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The Lions continued to control play throughout the quarter, and extended their lead to 2-0 with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter on the first collegiate goal from sophomore Lucia Mateos. The Lions continued to dominate play in the Eagles zone as the second quarter began with a couple of good scoring chances being turned away. Sophomore Kayte Moist became the second Lion to register her first collegiate goal on the afternoon as she extended the Lions lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute. First-year Jenna Crosby kept the run going just under four minutes later with a goal to make it a 4-0 Albright game into halftime.
 
The Lions continued to pull away in the second half as first-year Lamya Mejias scored in the 35th minute of action to make it a 5-0 game. Eastern began generating pressure in the following minutes after the goal, and broke the shutout in the 37th minute to make it a 5-1 game. Albright was able to limit the Eagles on chances in the fourth quarter, and sealed the 5-1 triumph.
 
Albright held a 16-7 shot advantage for the contest with 14-6 shots on goal mark as well. The Lions also held a slight 7-6 edge in corners. Sophomore Veronica Heckman earned the win in her first collegiate start as she made five saves and allowed one goal in the full 60 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Kylie Troyer suffered the loss for the Eagles after making one save in 29:40 of action. Abby Agapito made seven saves in relief of Troyer in 30:20 of action.
 
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, October 16th as they will travel to face Stevenson in MAC Commonwealth play at 5 p.m.
