Men's Soccer Defeated 2-0 at York

YORK, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team was unable to rally from an early deficit Wednesday evening as they were defeated 2-0 by York in MAC Commonwealth action.

With the loss, The Lions fall to 0-4 in conference play and 3-9-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Spartans advance to 1-2 in conference and 3-6-3 overall.

York controlled the pace early in the first half, firing off the first three shots of the game. The Spartans got their third shot past sophomore goalkeeper Nick Barton in the seventh minute to claim an early 1-0 lead. Senior Yaniv Gonyoe had the best scoring opportunity of the game for the Lions in the 27th minute when he sent a long shot in from outside the box that ricocheted off the crossbar. York held a sizable 13-2 first half shot advantage over Albright.

Albright came out of the half with energy as senior Alex MacDonald and sophomore John Villano posted back-to-back shots for the Lions in the opening minutes of the second stanza but were unable to get them on net. York added another goal in the 49th minute to go up two on Albright. Barton tallied three second half saves to give the Lions a fighting chance, but Albright failed to get another shot off for the remainder of the game as the Spartans claimed the 2-0 win to pick up their first MAC Commonwealth victory for the program.

York held a dominant 21-4 shot advantage and a 6-0 shot on goal advantage over Albright. The Spartans also took eight corner kicks compared to the Lions one. Barton receives the loss for Albright with four saves in 90 minutes of action. Spartans goalkeeper Keegan Brade did not need a single save in 90 minutes to earn the win for York.

Albright returns to Shirk Stadium Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as they host Stevenson to continue MAC Commonwealth play.
