READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's tennis team earned a dominant 9-0 win against Penn State Abington in non-conference dual match action at the Albright Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions improve to 3-0 overall as they played their final game during the fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions fall to 0-2 overall.
Albright captured all three of the doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. At the first doubles spot, the Lions duo of first-year
Alex Pancu and junior
Shelby Woodard defeated Penn State Abington's Carly Martinson and Michelle Ly in a thrilling 8-7 match. Pancu and Woodard forced a tiebreaker after trailing 7-6 won the tiebreaker, 7-4. Junior
Libby Harford and senior
Lauren China earned an 8-1 win over Isabella Ferreira and Ana Telesnitska in No. 2 doubles action, while Seniors
Maddie Taylor and
Marisa Cocca earned the win in the No. 3 spot by default.
Pancu opened the Lions singles matches up with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the number one spot over Martinson. Harford defeated Ly 6-2, 6-3 at the number two spot, while Woodard took down Telesnitska 6-0, 6-0 in the three spot. Sophomore
Macie Littleton defeated Ferreira in the number four spot by scores of 6-0, 6-0, while Taylor and Cocca earned respective singles wins by default.
Albright will return to action on Sunday, October 10th as they will wrap up their fall schedule against Lycoming at 1:30 p.m.
