Women's Hoops Outlasts Delaware Valley in Overtime, 82-69

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team did not allow a single point in overtime as they outlasted Delaware Valley 82-69 in MAC Crossover action on Thursday night at the Bollman Center.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 3-2 overall and snap a two-game skid. Meanwhile, the Aggies fall to 0-3 overall after playing their first game in two weeks.
 
Junior Maggie O'Hare registered a career-high 30 points behind going 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. O'Hare nearly missed a double-double with eight rounds in addition to adding two steals and two blocks. Classmate Gabby Boggs posted a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds along with two assists. Junior Abby Gaffney tallied 12 points and eight assists, topping her career-high that was set previously last week. Brady Wassel recorded 12 points in four rebounds in the win to round out the Lions double-digit scorers.
 
O'Hare opened the game with the first of four-straight three pointers between the teams in the opening 2:19. O'Hare hit another three-pointer following a pair of Aggie three-pointers to make it an 8-7 game at the 7:20-mark. The three-point barrage continued after Wassel made a pair back-to-back to put the Lions up 14-10 at the six-minute mark of the first quarter. Delaware Valley rallied behind a pair of three-pointers of its own to take a 19-16 lead at the 2:37-mark before eventually taking its largest lead of the quarter at 23-18. The Aggies opened up a 28-24 lead with 6:54 left in the first half until the Lions used a 7-1 run to take a 31-29 lead at the 2:42-mark of the second quarter. Delaware Valley outscored the Lions 6-3 in the final 1:33 to take a 35-34 lead into halftime.
 
The Lions came out strong in the second half as they opened the third quarter with seven-straight points to go up 41-35 at the 7:17-mark. Albright extended its lead out to 47-40 at the 4:54-mark before the Aggies went on a 9-2 run to tie the score at 49. The teams traded points as the Lions took a 55-52 lead into the fourth quarter following a jumper by Gaffney with 19 seconds left in the third quarter. Albright seemed to take control of the game with six-straight points to open the fourth quarter as they took a 61-52 lead with 7:41 left in regulation. However, the Aggies rallied with 11-straight points to go up 63-61 at the 4:04-mark of the fourth quarter. The teams went back and forth for the final four minutes to send the game into overtime. Following a pair of free throws from Boggs, the Aggies tied the game at 69 with 39 seconds left in regulation. Both teams missed a chance to pull ahead in their final possessions of the fourth quarter.
 
In overtime, the Lions did not allow a single point as they outscored the Aggies 13-0 in the extra five minutes. Boggs put the Lions ahead for good at the 3:58-markwith a layup, and Albright held the Aggies to go 0-of-4 from the field in overtime while forcing four turnovers. The Lions went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line in overtime as well.
 
Albright went 23-of-55 (41.8%) from the field and 7-of-17 (41.2%) from beyond the arc. The Lions went 29-of-41 (70.7%) from the free throw line, the most attempts in a single game for the Lions since they had 48 against Rowan in November 2018. Albright held a slight 37-33 advantage in rebounds despite the Aggies holding an 18-11 advantage in second chance points. Meanwhile, the Aggies went 35.8 percent (24-of-67) from the field, and 8-of-20 (40%) from three-point range. Delaware Valley went 3-of-12 from three-point range after going 5-of-8 in the first quarter. The Aggies shot 61.9 (13-of-21) percent from the free throw line as well.
 
Haley Keenan led the Aggies with a team-high 21 points along with posting four rebounds. Emily Kutskel posted 17 points behind going 8-of-11 from the field, and Lauren Moretti just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
The two teams will square off again tomorrow, February 26th as the venue shifts to Delaware Valley with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
