READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team struggled to get its offense going as they fell 16-4 to Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Mustangs improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Stevenson was unable to convert on early chances in the first three minutes before finally getting on the board at the 24:58-mark of the first half off a free position shot to go up 1-0. Kyra Lycett cut the deficit to 3-2 at the 18:29-mark off a free position shot for her first collegiate goal. Unfortunately for the Lions, Stevenson strung together five-straight goals to go up 8-2 at the 6:41-mark. Katelyn Patrick ended the run with a goal at the 5:03-mark to make it an 8-3 game before the Mustangs responded with a goal at the 2:22-mark to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs picked up right where they left off in the first half as they extended its lead to 10-3 at the 25:57-mark. Stevenson shut down the Lions offense in the second half as they allowed just five total shots. The Mustangs scored seven-straight goals in the second half before China scored the lone goal of the second half for the Lions with 41 seconds left.
Stevenson held a sizable 45-18 shot advantage for the game, and a 34-9 mark in shots on goal. The Mustangs held a slight 22-17 ground ball advantage, and a 11-4 edge in draw control wins. Mustang goalkeeper Sophie Shucosky earned the win after making four saves in 57 minutes of action. China led the Lions with two goals on the afternoon, while Caroline Murphy paced the Mustangs with seven points behind six goals and one assist.
