Tortorice's Goal Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over Hood, 8-7

FREDERICK, Md. – The Albright women's lacrosse team pulled out a thrilling 8-7 win over the Hood Blazers in MAC Commonwealth play Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Lions advance to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play while the Blazers fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference.
 
Junior Ashleigh Tortorice got the Lions rolling with the first goal of the game with a feed from first-year Katelyn Patrick at the 19:21-mark of the first half. Junior Maddie Taylor followed with a goal at the 15:12-mark to put the Lions up two. The Blazers went on a three-goal run to give them the one goal lead with 10:47 left in the first half. Junior Abbie Moist snapped their run with a feed from classmate Lauren China for the last goal of the half at the 8:03-mark to tie the game up at 3 going into the second half.
 
Hood came out of the half scoring back-to-back goals to give them a 5-3 lead at the 26:51-mark. The Lions responded with back-to-back goals of their own from first-year Kyra Lycett and China to tie the game back up at 5. The Blazers took the lead once again at the 10:13-mark. Taylor scored her second goal of the game on a free-position shot at the 8:54-mark to tie the game up at 6. Hood, again, took the lead with 5:57 left in the game. Lycett tied the game up at 7 with a free-position goal at the 2:20-mark. Tortorice capitalized on a man-up opportunity after a yellow card on Hood and netted the game-winning goal on a free-position shot with 28 seconds left in the game to claim the 8-7 win for the Lions.
 
Hood held a 26-19 edge in shots over Albright. The Blazers also held a slight 10-7 advantage in draw controls. The two teams both had 17 ground balls on the afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Terae Mason earned the win for the Lions after making nine saves in 60 minutes of play. Junior goalkeeper Sophia Vilaca earned the loss for the Blazers with ten saves in 60 minutes of play. Lycett, Tortorice, and Taylor all added two goals for the Lions. Junior Sydney Plunkett had a game-high and career-high six ground balls on the afternoon.
 
Albright travels to Widener Wednesday, April 14 at 6pm to continue MAC Commonwealth play.
