Women's Lacrosse Rallies to Top Widener, 10-9

CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright women's lacrosse team defeated Widener 10-9 in a tightly contested MAC Commonwealth matchup.
 
With the win, Albright advances to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in MAC Commonwealth play while Widener falls to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in conference.
 
Sophomore Chloe Fornoff got the Lions started with the first goal of the game off a free position shot at the 28:33-mark. However, the Lions got into a scoring slump as the Pride went on a four-goal run to put them up 4-1 with 14:18 left in the first half. Junior Taylor Filmer snapped the Pride's run at the 12:31-mark to get the Lions rolling again. Junior Ashleigh Tortorice registered a goal with the feed from Filmer to cut the Lions deficit to 4-3 at the 10:39-mark of the first half. First-year Brianna Kung continued Albright's three-goal run with the assist from classmate Kyra Lycett to tie the game up at 4 going into the second half.
 
Widener opened up the second half with a goal to put them up 5-4. Fornoff registered her second goal of the game at the 26:30-mark to tie the game up at 5. A goal from Widener once again gave them the lead at the 20:55-mark. Back-to-back Albright goals from junior Lauren China and first-year Katelyn Patrick gave the Lions their first lead of the game since they scored the opening goal. Widener scored at the 9:33-mark but, again, the Lions responded with back-to-back goals from first-year Kayte Moist and Tortorice to give them the 10-8 lead with 3:27 left in the game. Widener tried to fight back with a goal at the 1:36-mark but it wouldn't be enough as the Lions pulled out the 10-9 win over the Pride.
 
Albright held a 27-22 shot advantage over Widener and won the battle for ground balls 20-17. The Lions also won draw controls 11-10 went 15-19 for clears. With the win, senior goalkeeper Terae Mason matches the program record for career wins with 33. Mason made nine saves in 60 minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Medve receives the loss for the Pride despite also making nine saves in 60 minutes of play. Patrick tied for a game-high three points on one goal and two assists. Junior Maddie Taylor had a game-high eight draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Tortorice and Fornoff each added two points on two goals for the Lions while China and Filmer tallied two points on one goal and one assist.
 
The Lions return to Shirk Stadium Saturday at 1pm as they take on Wilkes in MAC crossover action.
