WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team pulled out the 11-10 overtime win against Wilkes in MAC crossover action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions advance to 2-7 overall while Wilkes falls to 3-7 overall.
Wilkes had the opening goal of the game to gain their first lead at the 14:35-mark. Junior
Cole Genneken got the Lions on the board at the 12:37-mark of the first quarter to tie the game up at 1. The Colonels responded with four unanswered goals to give them a 5-1 lead at the 4:20-mark. The Lions snapped the run with back-to-back goals from junior
Alex McKendry and Genneken to cut their deficit to 5-3 and close out the first quarter. Wilkes opened up the second stanza with a goal at the 13:05-mark to bring the score to 6-3. Senior
John Gilbert scored off a feed from Genneken at the 5:31-mark to cut their deficit to 6-4. A goal from Wilkes would bring the score to 7-4. The Lions closed out the second quarter with back-to-back goals in the final minute of the second quarter form McKendry and Genneken, cutting their deficit to 7-6 entering the second half.
Genneken opened the third quarter with his fourth goal of the game to tie the game up at 7 at the 12:14-mark. Wilkes responded with back-to-back goals to give them a two-goal lead and close out the third stanza. Albright registered back-to-back goals of their own from McKendry and first-year
Jon Alvarez to start the fourth quarter and tie the game up at 9. Wilkes took the lead again at the 5:10-mark. Sophomore
Harrison Bodwell scored the goal from a Genneken feed with 1:00 left in the quarter that would tie the game up at 10 and send them into overtime. The Lions capitalized on the first possession of overtime play and a goal from Alvarez solidified the 11-10 win.
Albright held a 48-37 shot advantage over Wilkes, registering 31 on goal. The Lions won the battle for ground balls 47-36 as well as face offs 16-8 and forced the Colonels into 30 turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper
Liam Ferry receives the win for the Lions making three saves in 30:58 minutes of play. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Lasher receives the loss for the Colonels despite making 13 saves in 30:58 minutes of play. Genneken led the game in scoring with seven points on four goals and three assists and six ground balls. McKendry added three goals for three points while Alvarez added two goals and three ground balls. Senior
Connor Graser tallied three caused turnovers and six ground balls for the Lions.
Albright returns to action Saturday at 1pm as they travel to York to close out MAC Commonwealth regular season play.
