READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions softball team dropped a pair of games to Lebanon Valley on Friday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the losses, the Lions drop to 0-10 overall and in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 5-8 overall and in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Dutchmen jumped on the Lions quickly in the top of the first inning as they scored two runs before the first out of the inning was recorded. Lebanon Valley made it 5-0 off a pair of singles and took advantage of three Lions errors to extend its lead to 9-0. Kathryn Baptiste forced a groundout to end the inning. The Dutchmen added 12 runs off just three hits in the top of the third to take a 21-0 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam after the first four Dutchmen runners reached base. First-year
Jaime Dagostino recorded the Lions first hit with two outs in the bottom of the third before a groundout ended the inning. Senior
Kaitlyn Chell ripped a single to left field in the bottom of the fourth with two outs, but a strikeout ended the Lions threat. Albright put its first two runners on in the bottom of the fifth before the Dutchmen retired the next three batters to end the game.
GAME TWO
Much like in game one, the Dutchmen scored multiple runs in the first inning. Lebanon Valley scored three runs off three hits to take the early 3-0 advantage. The Dutchmen took a commanding 10-0 lead in the top of the third as they scored seven runs off nine hits, highlighted by a two-run home run to start the scoring in the inning. Junior
Massiel Del Orbe tallied the Lions first hit in the bottom of the third with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat. Albright put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the fourth before the Dutchmen quickly retired the next two batters to end the inning. Lebanon Valley capped the game by scoring three runs off five hits in the top of the fifth to take a 13-0 lead.
Del Orbe went 2-of-2 from the plate in game two, while Chell posted hits in both games. Sarah Musselman earned the win for the Dutchmen in game one after throwing five shutout innings, allowing three hits, and striking out eight. Emma Kelliher grabbed the win in game two behind five shutout innings, allowing three hits, and striking out four.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow, April 2
nd as they will complete its four-game set with Lebanon Valley starting at 1 p.m.
