Field Hockey Suffers 1-0 Loss to Lebanon Valley

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team was defeated 1-0 by Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in MAC Commonwealth play.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

The game opened up with most of the action coming from the midfield. Senior Kelly Ventura-Blanco registered the first shot of the game in the 10th minute of the contest as she directed a shot from a penalty corner wide of the cage. Lebanon Valley had a decent scoring chance one minute later but Lions junior defender Samantha McDonald kept the game scoreless with a defensive save. Junior goalkeeper Adele Thomas came up in the 18th minute with a save on the Dutchmen's only shot of the second quarter. First-year Lamya Mejias had the Lions only shot of the quarter and it went wide right of the cage.

Lebanon Valley broke the scoring in the 35th minute during the third quarter when Ashlyn Urich one-timed a long pass from the right side past Thomas. Albright had two decent looks at the cage but were unable to convert. In the fourth quarter, the Lions once again had two good scoring chances but were unable to tie the game up.

The Lions held a slight 7-5 advantage in shots while the Dutchmen held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Lebanon Valley also held a slight 4-2 advantage in penalty corners. Thomas made two saves in the loss and played the full 60 minutes in the cage. Corinne Kearney earned the shutout after making two saves in the full 60 minutes for the Dutchmen.

Albright will return to action on Tuesday, September 28th as they will host Scranton in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
