READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team opened their 2021 regular season at Shirk Stadium with a 5-3 loss to Ursinus Saturday evening.
 
Playing in their first contest in 672 days, Albright opened up their 2021 season 0-1. Ursinus advances to 1-1.
 
Ursinus got off to a strong start scoring back-to-back goals in the 12
th and 13
th minute of the game. The Bears followed with two more goals in the 42
nd and 44
th minutes to claim a 4-0 lead at the half.
 
The Lions battled hard in the second half outscoring the Bears 3-1. Albright got on the board in the 53rd minute of the game with a goal from first-year 
Luke Fanning and an assist from senior 
Yaniv Gonyoe. Ursinus responded with a goal in the 59
th minute to bring their lead to 5-1. Senior 
Billy Hanratty netted an unassisted goal in the 60
th minute to cut Albright's deficit to 5-2. Sophomore 
John Villano found the back of the net in the 74
th minute with the assist from Fanning, but it would not be enough to outlast Ursinus as they claimed the 5-3 win over Albright.
 
Ursinus held a 13-7 shot advantage over Albright and landed nine on goal. The Bears also took five corners compared to the Lion's three. Senior goalkeeper 
Hunter Stump receives the loss for the Lions despite making four crucial saves in 90 minutes of play. Junior Tyler Lewin receives the win for Ursinus with one save in 90 minutes of play. Fanning led the Lions in his collegiate debut with three points behind one goal and one assist on the evening.
 
The Lions return to Shirk Stadium Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they take on Lancaster Bible.
