Lions Rush For 242 Yards in Loss

Chester, PA - The Albright College Football team fell to the Widener Pride Saturday afternoon by a score of 34-28. The loss drops the Lions to 0-7 on the season, and 0-5 in conference play. The Pride move to 2-5 and 1-4.

Widener got out to an early lead on a first quarter one yard touchdown run by Jeff Chaplin. They would then double their lead midway through the second quarter on a Chaplin 31 yard pass to Ty Holbert. The Lions would get on the board late in the second quarter on a 10 yard Alex Gardsy run. But the Pride would answer, and score another touchdown with just 29. On the ensuing kickoff, Quincy Clark returned it 65 yards, setting the Lions up at the Widener 23 yard line with 18 seconds left. On the next play, Gardsy found Antwan Rogers Jr for a touchdown, making the score 21-14 headed into the break.

In the third quarter, the only score was a 27 yard field goal by the Pride. They would add another field goal early in the fourth to make it 27-14. The Lions inched closer midway through the quarter on a 39 yard touchdown run by Isaiah Shockley. The Lions would get a stop on the next Pride drive, giving the Lions the ball with 7:24 left in the game. But the comeback was not meant to be, as Gardsy would throw an interception with five minutes remaining. The Pride would get some breathing room on the following drive in the form of a Chaplin touchdown run. Gardsy would add a late 10 yard TD run with 32 seconds remaining, but the Lions were unable to recover the onside kick that followed.

Shockley led the way with 117 yards on the ground on just 12 attempts. Right behind him was Gardsy with 97 yards. He also went 12-22 through the air for 106 yards.

Sam Viera and Daniel Vital led the defense with 10 tackles each. After tying the Albright school record with four sacks last week, Ryan Rapp added two more, and had an interception as well.

Up Next - The Lions will play on the road again next week, as they travel to Madison, NJ to take on FDU-Florham. That game will take place on Saturday, October 29th, with kickoff at 12pm.
