Football Loses Defensive Battle

Madison, NJ - The Albright Lions fell to the FDU-Florham Devils by a score of 10-2 on Saturday. The loss drops the Lions to 0-8 on the season , and 0-6 in conference play. The Devils move to 5-4 and 3-3.

This game was a defensive struggle, that saw the only offensive points scored in the second quarter when FDU kicked a 30 yard field goal early in the quarter, and then added a 33 yard touchdown pass from Ryon Thomas to Brendan Dennis late in the half. This gave the Devils a 10-0 lead going into halftime.

The Lions would score the only points of the second half late in the third quarter when Eric Martin sacked Thomas in the end zone, giving the Lions two points for the safety. The Lions had a couple of chances to tie things in the fourth quarter, but could never get anything going offensively.

The Lions used three quarterbacks with starter Alex Gardsy out with an injury. Jahkem Allen started and went 3-8 passing for 29 yards. He also ran for 50 yards.Jarren Rutter came in in the second half and completed his only pass for six yards. He ran for 19 yards. The final QB of the day was J'Sean Matthews, and he went 0-2 passing, and picked up six yards rushing. Running back Isaiah Shockley ran for 55 yards on 16 attempts.

Defensively, the Lions were once again led by Daniel Vital and Sam Viera, who had 13 and 10 tackles respectively, with Viera adding a sack. Jayshawn Green ended a promising Devils drive in the second quarter with an interception in the end zone. Another long drive in the fourth quarter by the Devils was ended by an Albright interception, this time by Taylor Heflin.

Up Next - The Lions will next play on Saturday, November 5th in their home finale and senior night, as they take on cross town rival Alvernia. That game starts at 12pm at Shirk Stadium.
