China Plays Hero as Women's Tennis Beats Lycoming

Reading, PA - The Albright Women's Tennis team defeated Lycoming 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. This brought their fall season to a close with a 4-1 record. Lycoming moves to 3-4 with the loss.

In doubles play, the Lions won two of the three matches, with Alex Pancu and Michelle Timothy leading the way, winning their match 8-1. Alizabeth Zarnofsky and Marisa Cocca won their match 8-4, while the pairing of Macie Littleton and Lauren China fell 2-8.

In singles play, the top two of Pancu and Timothy each won their match, with Pancu winning 6-1, 6-2, and Timothy 6-1, 7-5. This put the Lions one point away from clinching the match.

After Alizabeth Zarnofsky (3-6, 6-7), Jacqualine Manikas (0-6, 0-6), and Macie Littleton (3-6, 6-4, 7-10) each fell in their matches, the team match was tied at four with one match remaining. Playing in her final collegiate tennis match, Lauren China fell in the first set 6-7 in a tiebreaker. She would battle back to win the second set 6-4, sending the individual match, and team match, to a decisive tiebreaker. The tiebreaker was a back and forth affair, featuring match points for both players, but China was able to pull it out, winning the third set 14-12, giving the Lions the win.

Up Next - The Lions will look to carry their strong play from the fall into the spring season.
