READING, Pa - The Albright women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 MAC Commonwealth) was in action this afternoon against Ursinus College (1-1) in their 2022-23 home opener. The Lions led wire to wire never trailing in the game. Albright used a big third quarter to win the game 47-36.
A Gabby Boggs block and a Mackenzie Dover three pointer got things underway at the Bollman Center. The three from Dover gave the Lions a 3-0 lead, a lead that Albright would not relinquish throughout the games entirety.
The Lions led 13-7 after one quarter. Albright and Ursinus played just about an even second quarter which gave the Lions a 21-17 halftime lead.
The third quarter was dominated by the home team. Albright outscored Ursinus 16-2 in the frame stretching their lead to 18 points. Albright held Ursinus to 1-15 shooting from the floor. Meanwhile on the other end of the court Amina Rauf hit two big threes to energize the Albright faithful.
The Bears made a late comeback attempt getting within seven points of the Lions with under a minute to go.
Boggs put the final touches on Albright's victory, hitting two big free throws and making a driving layup to ice the game down the stretch.
The Lions were able to get out in transition against the Bears notching six fast break points and 10 points off Ursinus turnovers.
Boggs finished with another double-double recording 12 points and 13 rebounds. Boggs also added two blocks, two assists and two steals. Dover had 12 points on 5-10 shooting and six rebounds. Rauf finished with eight points, three rebounds and three steals.
