Women’s Basketball falls at home to Messiah

The Albright women’s basketball team was looking for their fifth straight win but the visiting Falcons edged out the Lions 56-41 on Saturday afternoon.

READING, PA. - The Albright women's basketball team (6-4, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) hosted Messiah (7-2, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) this afternoon and fell to the visiting Falcons 56-41 between two MAC Commonwealth Championship contenders.

Both teams came into the game playing a great brand of basketball riding multiple game win streaks.

The early season MAC Commonwealth battle started going the way of Messiah. The visiting Falcons jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Albright would simply not go away that easy battling back in the second quarter. Albright went on a 8-3 run to cut the deficit down to just eight points early in the second.

The Lions defense came alive in the second quarter holding Messiah to only one made shot from the field on 13 attempts. The stingy defense forced Messiah into tough shots during the quarter.

The back and forth action resulted in Messiah holding a slim 22-17 lead going into halftime.

After the halftime break, the second half went the way of the visiting Falcons adding onto their halftime lead and taking a 12 point lead heading into the final quarter.

Messiah made life tough on Albright forcing the Lions to be uncomfortable offensively. Messiah was able to close out the game and win the contest 56-41.
