FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The Albright baseball team dropped a pair against Kenyon to open up their Spring Break trip in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
With the two losses, the Lions fall to 0-8 overall. Meanwhile, the Lords improves to 5-5 overall.
GAME ONE
Kenyon took an early advantage in the top of the first, scoring five unanswered runs capped off with a homer that brought in two RBIs. The Lords added to their lead in the top of the fourth earning three runs behind four hits to take a commanding 8-0 advantage. Kenyon scored their final run of game one in the top of the fifth to claim a 9-0 lead.
Albright got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as
Will Algard walked to get on base.
Reece Adam followed with a walk to advance Algard to second. Algard moved to third while Adam moved to second on a wild pitch.
Ethan Karel then walked to get on base and load the bases for the Lions.
Jack Gilmer then walked as well, bringing home Algard to get the Lions on the board.
Trey Smith then reached first base on a fielder's choice as Adam reached home to cut Albright's deficit to 9-2. The Lions were unable to score another, however, as Kenyon claimed the game one victory.
Jeremy Brubaker received the loss for Albright behind 3.0 innings pitched and falls to 0-3. Alex Gow earns the win for Kenyon and improves to 1-0 behind 5.0 innings pitched only allowing two hits.
GAME TWO
The Lions were fired up to open game two.
Billy Bean led off with a huge triple down the right field line to record his first collegiate hit and give Albright early momentum. Sklenarik then walked to get on base and advanced to second on a wild pitch while Bean scored to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
Chris Thomas walked to get on base and advanced to second following a
Dylan Harlos single that brought Sklenarik home to take a 2-0 lead. Thomas and Harlos then each advanced a base on a wild pitch. Adam kept the Lions in front with a single to right field that brought home Thomas and Harlos, earning two RBIs to give Albright a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
Kenyon got on the board in the second, scoring two runs behind two hits and two errors and cutting their deficit to 4-2. The Lords then tied the game up at four in the bottom of the third on two runs, two hits, and one error. Kenyon began to control the pace in the bottom of the fourth, earning five runs on four hits to take a 9-4 lead. The Lords added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth, tallying three more runs and one more in the sixth to extend their lead to 13-4. The Lions were able to score one more in the top of the seventh, fueled by another big triple from Bean to right field to lead off. Bean then advanced home after a Sklenarik ground out to second base. Their efforts would not be enough, however, as Kenyon claimed the 13-5 victory.
Dan Stofko falls to 0-2 and receives the loss for Albright in game two behind 3.2 innings pitched. Edwin Groff earns the win for Kenyon and advances to 1-1 behind 4.0 innings pitched.
Albright will return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. to continue their Spring Break trip against Western Connecticut State.
