MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Albright softball team dropped two contests to Keystone and Suffolk on the second day of their Spring Break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday.
With the losses, the Lions fall to 0-4 overall.
Keystone, 12; Albright, 4
Albright suffered a 12-4 setback to Keystone (1-0) in game one. The Giants jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first behind four hits. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first as
Allison Melahn singled to lead off. Melahn advanced to second on a ground out, then moved to third as
Jadelyn Van Winkle singled.
Kaitlyn Chell followed with a single to bring Melahn home and cut the Lions deficit to 4-1. Keystone added two runs in the top of the third fueled by two hits and one error, extending their lead to 6-1.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the third with three runs. Melahn doubled to lead off and circled home following a
Kathryn Baptiste single. Baptiste moved to second following a ground out and was sent home by a Chell double.
Laura Costello singled to center field to bring Chell home and cut the Lions deficit to 6-4. Keystone pulled ahead 10-4 in the top of the fourth following four runs on four hits and one error. The Giants solidified their victory with a run in the top of the fifth and a final run in the seventh to claim the 12-4 win in game one.
Van Winkle (0-2) receives the loss for the Lions despite pitching a complete game. Hanna Dickson pitched a complete game as well to earn the win for Keystone.
Suffolk, 5; Albright, 2
The Lions suffered a 5-2 loss in game two to Suffolk (2-2). Albright opened up the scoring in the top of the first jumpstarted with a single to left field from Melahn. Baptiste followed with a single to center field and moved to second on an error while Melahn advanced to third. Melahn scored on a ground out to give Albright the 1-0 lead. Suffolk answered in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs on two hits to jump in front. The Rams added another run in the bottom of the second behind two hits to grasp a 3-1 lead.
The Lions earned another run in the top of the fifth as Melahn got on base with a bunt. Baptiste brought Melahn home with a big triple that cut Albright's deficit to 3-2. Suffolk responded with two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth on one hit and one error that put them ahead 5-2. The Lions were unable to score another as the Rams solidified the win in game two.
Laura Costello (0-2) receives the loss for Albright in game two with 4.0 innings pitched. Reyes (1-0) receives the win for Suffolk with 4.0 innings pitched while Brandow earns the save for the Rams.
Albright will return to action in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to take on Wilson. The Lions will the matchup against Keene State at 1:30 p.m.
