Baseball Shut Down by Franciscan on Spring Break Trip

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Albright baseball team was dealt a pair of losses by Franciscan in Fort Pierce, Fla. on Thursday.

With the losses the Lions fall to 0-12 overall. Meanwhile, the Barons improve to 6-1 overall.

GAME ONE
Albright suffered a 7-2 setback to Franciscan in game one. The Lions opened up the scoring in the top of the first as Billy Bean reached first on an error to lead off and stole second. Dylan Harlos singled and tallied an RBI as Bean circled home to give Albright the 1-0 lead. Franciscan answered with two runs on two hits and one error in the bottom half of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead. Albright tied the game at two in the top of the second as Ethan Karel was hit by a pitch to get on base. Karel advanced to second on a ground out and tallied an unearned run on an error.

The two teams defended well throughout the third inning as neither team was able to score. Franciscan had a big offensive inning in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors to pull ahead 5-2. The Barons solidified their victory in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on two hits to claim the 7-2 win in game one.

GAME TWO
Albright was downed 12-5 by Franciscan in game two. The Barons took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first fueled by a double from Roman Berretta. Bean singled and earned the RBI as Berretta scored. Franciscan added a run to their lead in the top of the second on one hit. The Barons took a commanding 8-1 lead in the top of the third behind five runs and three hits. Franciscan capped off their run with four more scores behind five hits in the bottom to grasp a 12-1 advantage.

Albright notched two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Domenic Borelli reached first on an error to lead off. Eddie Meredith followed with a big triple that brought Borelli home. Meredith then circled home on a ground out to cut the Lions deficit to 12-3. The Lions had a final chance to chip away at their deficit in the bottom of the seventh with two runs on two hits. Meredith led off as he smashed a homer to cut Albright's deficit to 12-4. Hayden Paukstis followed with a walk to get on first and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Trey Smith doubled and earned the RBI as Paukstis circled home. It would not be enough, however, as the Barons claimed the 12-5 victory.

Connor Trower (0-2) receives the loss for the Lions from game one behind 4.0 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Gavin Budzyn earns the loss for Albright from game two behind 5.0 innings pitched.
