Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Washington College to Conclude Spring Break Trip

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Albright baseball team picked up their first win of the season as they split a doubleheader against Washington College (Md.) to conclude their Spring Break trip in Fort Pierce, Fla. on Friday.
 
The Lions overall record improves to 1-13 while Washington college falls to 11-5.
 
Washington College (Md.) 7, Albright 0 (7 inn.)
Albright was shut out in game one 7-0 by a talented Washington College team. The Shoremen opened up their scoring in the top of the first with one unearned run on an Albright error. Washington College added another unearned run behind one hit and one error in the top of the second to take their lead to 2-0. The Lions kept the Shoremen scoreless throughout the third and fourth inning, but they totaled three runs on two hits and one error in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to five. Washington College capped off their run in the top of the sixth with two runs on two hits and one error to solidify their 7-0 victory for game one.
 
Jeremy Brubaker (0-4) received the loss for Albright behind 5.0 innings pitched. Joe Morrissey (4-0) earned the win for Washington College after pitching a complete game with 14 strikeouts.
 
Albright 5, Washington College (Md.) 1 (7 inn.)
The Lions notched their first win of the season in game two with a 5-1 victory over the Shoremen. Albright opened up the scoring in the top of the third as Trey Smith singled to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Nick Sklenarik singled to left field and tallied the RBI as Smith scored the unearned run to put Albright in front 1-0.
 
The Lions had a big offensive inning in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits. Josh Halye led off with a single to right center field to open the frame. Nick Barton walked to get on base and move Halye to second. Chris Thomas followed with a single to right center field to load the bases. Roman Berretta singled to left field and earned the RBI as Halye scored. Jack Gilmer and Smith both walked to keep the bases loaded for the Lions as Barton and Thomas circled home. Sklenarik tallied his second hit and RBI of the game with a single to left field that brought Berretta home and extended the Lions lead to 5-0. Washington College finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with one run behind three hits. The Shoremen were unable to score again, however, as the Lions claimed the 5-1 victory.
 
Dan Stofko (1-2) earned the victory on the pitching mound for Albright behind 5.0 innings pitched and only four hits allowed. Ryan Mostoller (0-2) receives the loss for Washington College in game two behind 3.0 innings pitched.
 
Albright will return to Kelchner Field on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to host Ursinus in non-conference action.
