READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team dropped a 9-4 non-conference matchup to Ursinus at Kelchner Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-14 overall. Meanwhile, the Bears improve to 7-10.
Albright took an early lead with one run in the bottom of the opening frame.
Nick Sklenarik got the Lions rolling with a double to right field.
Dylan Harlos followed Sklenarik's lead with a double to left field to earn the RBI and give Albright a 1-0 lead. Ursinus answered in the top of the fourth with one run on one hit and one error to tie the game at one.
Josh Halye got the Lions started in the bottom half of the fourth with a double to center field.
Reece Adam got on base and moved Halye to third with a single to left field.
Chris Thomas singled to send Halye home and put Albright in front 2-1.
The Bears had a big inning in the top of the fifth, totaling six runs on just two hits and one error to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Ursinus then added to their lead in the top of the seventh with one run. Albright began to rally in the bottom of the eighth with two runs behind two hits. Halye walked to get on base for the Lions and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Adam then singled to left field and earned the RBI as Halye circled home.
Domenic Borelli tagged in as a pinch hitter and smashed a double to left field, bringing Adam home and cutting the Lions deficit to 8-4. Ursinus tacked one more run onto their lead in the top of the ninth behind two hits. The Lions put forth a promising effort in the bottom half of the ninth, seeing a pair of doubles from
Roman Berretta and Sklenarik, but the Lions were unable to chip away as Ursinus claimed the 9-4 non-conference victory.
Ursinus held a 13-9 advantage in hits. Sklenarik led Albright with four hits and two doubles. Adam followed with three hits and one RBI.
Adam Ferdock (0-1) receives the loss for Albright behind 4.2 innings pitched and 25 batters faced. Casey Murphy earns the win for Ursinus behind 7.0 innings pitched and 30 betters faced.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Susquehana at 3:30 p.m.
