Baseball Unable to Outlast Scranton on the Road

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Albright baseball team suffered an 8-1 setback at Scranton in non-conference action on Sunday.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-5 overall, while the Royals advance to 3-1-1 overall.
 
Scranton opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second when they earned one run on one hit to take the lead. The Royals scored another in the bottom of the fourth on one hit and one error to pull ahead 2-0. Albright got on the board in the top of the fifth as Jack Gilmer singled to left center field to lead off for the Lions. Gilmer then advanced to second after Trey Smith walked. Eddie Meredith completed a sacrificial bunt to advance Gilmer to third and Smith to second. Nick Sklenarik brought Gilmer home on a fielder's choice to earn the RBI and bring the score to 2-1.
 
The Royals had a big inning in the bottom of the fifth as they scored five runs on four hits and one error to claim a dominant 7-1 lead. Scranton tallied one more run in the bottom of the seventh to solidify their 8-1 victory as neither team was able to score another run.
 
Chris Thomas led Albright with two hits on the afternoon. Gilmer had the lone run while Sklenarik had the lone RBI for the Lions. Jeremy Brubaker receives the loss for Albright and falls to 0-2 behind 4.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, James Gadue earns the win for Scranton to open the season 1-0.
 
The Lions will return to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. as they travel to TCNJ for non-conference action.
