EWING, N.J. – Despite taking an early lead, the Albright baseball team dropped an 11-2 non-conference matchup at TCNJ on Tuesday.
With the loss, Albright falls to 0-6 overall. Meanwhile, TCNJ improves its overall record to 2-0.
Eddie Meredith got Albright rolling in the top of the first as he walked to lead off. Meredith advanced to third after
Nick Sklenarik singled to right field.
Chris Thomas brought Meredith home after a sacrificial fly out to left field to earn the RBI and put Albright on the board. Albright kept TCNJ scoreless until the bottom of the third when they scored four runs behind three hits to take a 4-1 lead.
Thomas hit a big homer to lead off in the top of the fourth to cut Albright's deficit to 4-2. The two teams put forth solid defensive efforts throughout the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth as the score remained 4-2. TCNJ, however, had a big inning in the bottom of the fifth as they scored four runs on five hits to grasp an 8-2 lead.
TCNJ added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth after loading the bases and completing a sacrificial fly out to center field and bring one home. They tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh behind two hits to increase their lead to 11-2. Albright was unable to comeback from their deficit in the final two innings as TCNJ claimed the non-conference victory.
Will Algard led Albright with two hits on the afternoon, while Thomas brought in the lone two RBIs.
Connor Trower receives the loss for Albright and falls to 0-1 behind 2.1 innings pitched. Jordan Gray earns the win for TCNJ to advance to 1-0 following 6.0 innings pitched and six strikeouts.
Albright will return to action on Sunday at 12 p.m. as they open up their spring break trip in Ft. Pierce, Fla. with a doubleheader against Kenyon.
