Softball Swept by Penn State Schuylkill in Non-Conference Doubleheader

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – The Albright softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests at Penn State Schuylkill on Monday.
 
With the losses, the Lions fall to 2-18 overall while the Nittany Lions improve to 14-5.
 
GAME ONE
Albright was shut down 7-0 by Penn State Schuylkill in game one. The Nittany Lions tallied a run in the first, second, and fourth innings to take an early 3-0 lead. Penn State Schuylkill then capped off their scoring in the bottom of the sixth with four unanswered runs fueled by two triples. The Nittany Lion dominated in game one with 12 hits and kept the Lions off the board by not allowing a single hit.
 
Allison Melahn (1-2) receives the loss for Albright behind 6.0 innings pitched and nine strikeouts. Sierra Santarsiero earns the victory for Penn State Schuylkill in game one behind a complete 7.0 innings pitched.
 
GAME TWO
Penn State Schuylkill completed the series sweep over Albright with a 5-1 victory in game two. The Nittany Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind three hits. Albright got on the board in the top of the second as Kaitlyn Chell doubled to get on base for the Lions. Heather Pomante singled and earned the RBI as Chell circled home tying the game at one. Penn State Schuylkill pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth with two runs behind two hits. The Nittany Lions extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs on two hits to grasp a 5-1 advantage. Penn State Schuylkill was able to onto their lead and not allow another run to solidify their game two victory.
 
Kiera Reilly (0-1) receives the loss for the Lions behind 6.0 innings pitched and 31 batters faced. Pomante led Albright's offense in game two with two hits and the lone RBI of the day.
 
The Lions will return to action on Thursday at 3 p.m. as they travel to Eastern for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader.
