Baseball Drops a Pair of Hard-Fought Contests at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Albright baseball team dropped a pair of hard-fought battles at Moravian in non-conference action on Saturday.
 
With the losses, the Lions drop to 1-20 overall. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds improves to 11-8.
 
GAME ONE
Moravian outlasted Albright 3-2 in game one of the doubleheader. The two teams battled defensively throughout the opening two innings as the game remained scoreless. Albright opened up the scoring in the top of the third as Ethan Karel walked to lead off and moved to third behind a Jack Gilmer double. Roman Berretta then singled to send Karel home and earn the RBI. The Greyhounds answered in the bottom half of the fourth with two runs on two hits to pull ahead 2-1. Albright then tied the game at two in the top of the fifth with one run fueled by a double from Karel that sent home Domenic Borelli. Moravian notched the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth behind two hits and silenced the Lions for the remainder of game one to earn the 3-2 non-conference victory.
 
Hayden Paukstis (0-1) received the loss in game one behind five innings pitched and 23 batters faced. Berretta led the Lions offense in game one with two hits and one RBI.
 
GAME TWO
Moravian earned a 7-6 win in game two to conclude the sweep over Albright. The Greyhounds got on the board early with one run behind one hit in the bottom of the first. Moravian kept Albright scoreless through the third and added two more runs to their lead in the bottom half of the inning on two hits. The Greyhounds continued to build on their lead in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs on two hits and one error to extend their advantage to 5-0. Moravian capped off their run with one more score in the bottom of the sixth before the Lions finally answered. Albright got on the board in the top half of the seventh as Will Algard singled and advanced to second on an error to lead off. Algard then moved to third on a wild pitch and circled home on a ground out.
 
The Lions rallied in the top of the eighth as Berretta singled to lead off. Nick Sklenark followed with a walk to get on base. Reece Adam then loaded the bases with a single. Algard smashed a double to left field to send home Sklenarik and Berretta to get Albright within three. Nick Barton then sent home Adam with a single through the left side. Gilmer then walked to load the bases once again. John O'Connor brought home Barton and Algard with a single up the middle that tied the game at six. The Lions were able to keep the Greyhounds off the board in the bottom half of the eighth, but Moravian was able to close out the game with a final run in the bottom of the ninth to claim the 7-6 victory.
 
Josh Jacavage (0-1) receives the loss for the Lions in game two behind 1.1 innings pitched and nine batters faced. Algard led Albright's offense in game two with two hits and two RBIs.
 
Albright will return to Kelchner field on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. as they host Messiah in MAC Commonwealth action.
