Baseball Falls to Widener on Senior Day

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team was downed 16-2 by Widener in MAC Commonwealth action at Kelchner Field on Friday.
 
After the contest, Albright honored the dedication and commitments their ten graduating seniors: Will Algard, Jeremy Brubaker, Dylan Harlos, Josh Jacavage, Willie Kimmel III, Cameron Rodgers, Nick Sklenarik, Dan Stofko, Chris Thomas, and Connor Trower.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-10 in conference and 1-30 overall. Meanwhile, the Pride improve to 7-3 in conference and 18-14 overall.
 
Widerner opened up their scoring frenzy in the top of the second inning with four runs behind two hits. The Pride added to their lead in the third with two runs on three hits, grasping a 6-0 advantage. Widener's biggest offensive inning came in the fourth as they totaled six runs on seven hits to extend their lead to twelve. The Pride continued to control the game, tallying two runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to cap off their scoring run. Albright finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as Algard singled to left field to get on base. Jacavage followed with a single to left field to move Algard to second. Thomas added a single up the middle, moving Jacavage to second and bringing Algard home for the RBI. Harlos then homered in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the score to 16-2. The Pride shut the Lions down in the ninth to solidify their 16-2 MAC Commonwealth victory.
 
Adam Ferdock (0-3) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright behind 3.0 innings pitched and 18 batters faced. Algard led the Lions offense with three hits on four at bats while Thomas followed with two hits.
 
The Lions will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Hood for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
