FREDERICK, Md. – The Albright baseball team dropped a pair of MAC Commonwealth matchups at Hood on Saturday.
With the losses, the Lions fall to 0-12 in conference and 1-32 overall. Meanwhile, the Blazers improve to 3-9 in conference and 10-24 overall.
GAME ONE
Albright fell 4-1 to Hood in game one of the MAC Commonwealth series. The Lions got on the board early in the top of the first as
Roman Berretta walked to get on base.
Reece Adam then reached on an error as Berretta moved to second.
Will Algard then singled and tallied an RBI as Berretta circled home to give Albright the early 1-0 lead. Both teams struggled to score throughout the second, third, and fourth innings as the Lions held onto the lead. Hood finally got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth with one run behind one hit and one error to tie up the game. The Blazers then pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh with one run behind three hits. Hood solidified their victory in the eighth as they added two more runs to their lead behind two hits and one error, claiming a 4-1 game one win.
Dan Stofko (1-8) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright behind 7.2 innings pitched, 33 batters faced, and four strikeouts. Algard led Albright's offense with two hits on two at bats and the lone RBI.
GAME TWO
Hood completed the conference series sweep with a 6-3 win over Albright in game two. The Blazers opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with one run on two hits. Hood then added two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third. Hood continued to add to their lead tallying one run in the fourth and one in the fifth, extending their advantage to five. The Lions finally answered in the top of the sixth as
Eddie Meredith doubled to lead off.
Billy Bean then singled as Meredith moved to third. Meredith then circled home on a ground out. Hood responded in the bottom half of the sixth with one run to cap off their scoring and hold onto a 6-1 advantage. Albright tallied one more run in the eighth and notched a final run in the ninth but were unable to close the gap as Hood claimed the 6-3 win.
Hayden Paukstis (0-4) receives the loss on the pitching mound for the Lions behind 5.2 innings pitched and 27 batters faced. Nick Sklenarick led the Lions offense in game two with three hits on four at bats and one RBI.
Albright will return to Kelchner Field for the last time this season on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to host Eastern in MAC Commonwealth action.
