READING, Pa. – The Albright women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 win over Hood in MAC Commonwealth action at the Albright College Tennis Courts on Saturday.
Albright also celebrated the accomplishments and commitments of their two graduating seniors:
Shelby Woodard and
Olivia Frey.
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-3 in conference and 9-4 overall. Meanwhile, the Blazers fall to 1-6 in conference and 5-9 overall.
Albright came out of the gates with an early lead over Hood as the duo of
Alex Pancu and
Shelby Woodard grasped an 8-1 win in the first doubles match. The Blazers answered in the second doubles match with an 8-1 victory while
Libby Harford and
Olivia Frey claimed an 8-0 in in the third doubles match to give Albright a 2-1 lead.
Pancu continued her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles spot, extending her streak to 12. Woodard followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot. Hood went on to claim the next three singles matches to tie the match at four. Frey picked up a thrilling 5-7, 6-4, 10-3 win in the final singles match to earn the 5-4 win for Albright.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. to host York in MAC Commonwealth action.
