Fornoff Breaks Single-Game Draw Control Program Record in Women's Lacrosse 15-9 Win Over Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's lacrosse team earned a big 15-9 victory over local MAC Commonwealth rival Alvernia at Shirk Stadium on Wednesday.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-5 in conference and 4-12 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves fall to 2-5 in conference and 8-8 overall.
 
Junior Chloe Fornoff set a new program record of single-game draw controls with 16. The previous program record of 12 stood since 2013 and was previously set by Amanda Smith.
 
Senior Lauren China led the Lions offense with a career-high eight points on three goals and five assists. Senior Ashleigh Tortorice followed with six points on five goals and one assist.
 
Albright came out of the gates fired up as China notched back-to-back scores to grasp an early lead. Senior Abbie Moist capped off the Lions early 3-0 run behind a feed from China at the 7:45-mark. Alvernia answered with back-to-back scores less than a minute apart to get within one. China tallied her early hat trick with a goal from the eight-meter at the 4:38-mark. Tortorice closed out the opening frame with a goal assisted by China to give the Lions a 5-2 advantage.
 
Alvernia found their footing in the second stanza, netting three-straight goals to tie the game at five at the 9:24-mark. Tortorice snapped the run behind a feed from China to take back the lead at the 8:28-mark. The two teams exchanged goals but Tortorice found the back of the net in the final two minutes of the half to give Albright a 7-6 lead entering the break.
 
The Lions came out of the half with back-to-back scores from sister duo Abbie Moist and Kayte Moist to extend their lead to three. Alvernia answered with a goal at the 12:55-mark, but Albright added two more scores less than 30 seconds apart from sophomore Kyra Lycett and Tortorice, bringing the score to 11-7. The Lions continued their momentum with two more goals from Tortorice and Fornoff to grasp a six-goal advantage. Alvernia capped off thethird with a goal in the final minute, cutting their deficit to 13-8 entering the final frame.
 
Fornoff opened the fourth behind a feed from China at the 9:21-mark. Lycett capped off the Lions scoring at the 2:17-mark as Albright took their largest lead at seven. Alvernia netted one final score but were unable to overcome their deficit as Albright claimed the 15-9 victory.
 
Albright dominated in all statistical categories as they held a 40-28 shot advantage and a 27-20 shot on goal advantage over Alvernia. The Lions also won the battle for ground balls 20-13 and draw controls 18-10. First-year goalkeeper Caelainn Morrison earned the win for Albright with 11 saves in the full amount of play. Kasey Fox receives the loss for Alvernia despite completing nine saves in 45 minutes of action.

The Lions will close out to 2022 regular season and celebrate senior day at Shirk Stadium on Saturday as they host Hood at 12 p.m.
