Reading, PA - The Albright Lions fell to the Western Connecticut Wolves by a score of 28-14. The loss drops the Lions to 0-2 on the season, while the Wolves improve to 1-1.
It was a story of two halves, as Western Connecticut dominated the first half, while Albright was the better team in the second. The Wolves started the scoring in the first quarter on their first possession, scoring on a 40 yard pass from John Giller to Zach Soriano. The Wolves would again score on a deep pass later in the quarter, this time a 69 yard pass from Giller to Julian Ferguson. This would make the game 14-0 after one quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same, with the Wolves scoring a third touchdown through the air, this time a 23 yard completion from Giller to Shakespeare Rodriguez. The final score of the half came way of a four yard run by Mack Driver. The WOlves led 28-0 at the half.
The Lions came out in the second half with something to prove, scoring early in the third quarter on a
Dahlir Adams one yard run, good for the Lions' first points on the season. Then early in the fourth
Alex Gardsy threw his first career touchdown pass to
Antonio Bargiel. Despite a few more possessions, this would be all the scoring in the game.
On offense, Gardsy went 11-24 with 104 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also showed some skill running the ball, rushing for 75 yards.
Isaiah Shockley also had a good day rushing, going for 63 yards.
Antwan Rogers Jr. led the receiving corps with 39 yards on two receptions.
Defensively it was the
Sam Viera show, as he ended the day with 14 tackles, including a sack.
Daniel Vital finsihed the game with seven tackles. Defensive end
Ryan Rapp also had a sack.
Up Next - The Lions will next play on Saturday, September 17th against Misericordia. In addition to being the conference opener, this game will also be Albright's Homecoming Game. Kickoff is slated for 12pm.
