Reading PA – Misericordia defeated Albright today at Shirk L. Stadium by a final score of 27-21. Misericordia jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead when
Keil Heineman returned the opening kick-off to the house for a 74-yard return.
Albright would respond in the first quarter behind a surgical eight play drive that found the endzone.
Jarren Rutter punched it in from seven yards out to tie the game at seven a piece.
Albright drove into Misericordia territory, but the drive stalled, and the Lions were forced to attempt a field goal. Misericordia blocked the field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown to make the score 14-7 heading into halftime.
After a
Taylor Heflin interception Albright was set up in perfect position to score. The Lions did just that when quarterback Jaren Rutter found
Lucas Roselli across the middle for six.
On the very next possession the Albright defense stood tall again. Josh scurry knocked the ball free from the tailback forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by
Samuel Moratori. The scoop and score tied the game at 21-21
Defense and special teams proved to be the difference in today's game. The cougars would add two late field goals to take the game 27-21.
Jarren Rutter paced the Lions on the ground totaling 82 yards to go along with a score. Roselli brought in three catches for 31 yards and a score.
Daniel Vital wreaked havoc on defense all day amassing an eye popping 13 total tackles and two and half of those 13 for loss.
Sam Viera added 11 tackles of his own and
Omar Sesay added eight solo tackles to round out the trio of tremendous defensive performances.
Albright will be right back at home next week when they host Lycoming College. The game will begin at 12 p.m.
