Volleyball Goes Undefeated In Tri-Match

READING PA. - Albright welcomed Wilkes College and Wilson College to the Bollman Center for a weekend Tri-Match. The Albright volleyball team went 2-0 in their two matches played this afternoon. The Lions Defeated Wilkes College three sets to one and beat Wilson College three sets to zero. The two wins today improves Albrights overall record to 9-3.

GAME 1: W vs. Wilkes 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-23, 25-12)

The first set went back and forth before Albright was able to pull away late in the set for the win to take the early lead in the match.The Lions then scored six straight points later in the set to ultimately win the opening set. 

Wilkes matched Albright in set number two pulling away late to tie the match at one set each.

The Third set was a highly competitive set that saw numerous lead changes and long rallies. Albright prevailed in the decisive set to give them a 2-1 set advantage. Using the third set momentum the Lions put the game on ice closing out the Colonels in four sets. 

Sophie Hampton put together an impressive offensive output today tallying a game high 15 kills. Carly Bono enjoyed a nice day offensively as well producing 11 kills of her own and adding 12 digs. Paola Mejias set up her team to be successful and she was awarded with 29 assists in today's match to go along with 10 digs. 

Shelby Cheuvront filled up the stat sheet today for Albright. Cheuvront had a game high four aces and a game high 17 digs. 

GAME 2: W vs. Wilson 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-13)

The Volleyball team picked up their second win of the day in convincing fashion. 

In a tightly contested opening set that saw four lead changes and nine different ties throughout the set. Much like the first game the Lions played today they used a late rally to win the set for an early lead in the match. 

Sets two was all Albright early and often. In the second set Albright used two different consecutive point streaks of seven and five to control the set and win it handily. 

After going down early 4-2 to Wilson College, Albright found something in their game and rattled off the next 11 of 13 possible points, closing out the set and match. 

Bono and Hampton led the way in game two each securing eight kills in the contest. Rhianna Betley added seven kills of her own to help give Albright their ninth win of the year. Bono also added 11 digs. 

In addition to her seven kills Betley also had the hot hand serving the ball. Betley was credited with seven aces in total. 

Deah Menedis was a standout for the Wilson Phoenix tallying an impressive game high 15 kills. 


The Lions will next be in action this Tuesday, September 27 against Stevenson University at home for a conference matchup. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
