Football Loses Season Opener to Ranked Salisbury

Salisbury, MD - The Albright Lions fell to #22 Salisbury by a score of 49-0. The loss makes it the second straight year that the Lions have fallen in their season opener to the Seagulls.

The Seagulls opened the scoring with a three yard touchdown run with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. They would then extend their lead heading into halftime scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter, giving them a 21-0 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same, with the scoring four more touchdowns, three in the third, and one in the fourth. 

The Lions struggled on offense, converting six first downs, and gaining a total of 86 yards, compared to the Seagulls' 506 yards. Of those 506 yards, 433 came through the year. Jarren Rutter started his first career game, and went 2-7 for 25 yards with one interception. Alex Gardsy also got some run at QB for the Lions, also going 2-7. His completions went for a total of 16 yards. Isaiah Shockley gained 36 yards on the ground on 15 attempts. He also had one reception for 20 yards. Jordan Smith was behind him with 18 yards on seven attempts.

Sam Viera led the Lions on defense with nine tackles, with CJ Partridge right behind him with eight. Keil Heineman punted the ball nine times, for a total of 291 yards.

Up Next - The Lions will return home for their home opener next weekend, as they take on Western Connecticut State at Shirk Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00pm.
