WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Albright College women's basketball team (10-6, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) took the floor on the road against King's College (Pa.) (3-13, 2-5 MAC Freedom) this afternoon and won the game 75-50. The Lions have won two in a row including four of their last five games played. In addition, Albright is now 3-1 since the turn of the New Year.
Once the game tipped off the Albright offense was ready to go. As a team Albright shot 69% from the floor in the first quarter. Mackenzie Dover scored eight points, including two triples, nearly outscoring the Monarchs by her lonesome. Four of the five starters scored for Albright in the first 10 minutes on their way to a 20-13 lead after the first quarter.
Albright continued their strong play into the second quarter leading by 10 midway through the frame. The Lions never led by less than 10 in the second quarter doing a fantastic job of stopping any comeback attempt by King's College in its tracks. The Lions led 38-24 after 20 minutes of play.
An 11-0 run to start the second half paved the way for the highest scoring quarter of the game for Albright pouring in 22 points. The run put the game out of reach and gave Albright a 60-39 advantage going into the final 10 minutes. Amina Rauf nailed two three's and scored eight points in the quarter pacing the Lions.
The Lions maintained their double digit lead throughout the fourth quarter coasting to their fourth win in their last five games. Albright matched their season high in points scoring 75 against the Monarchs.
Four different Albright scorers ended the game in double figures today. Amina Rauf paced Albright scoring 19 points (3-5 3PT) and recorded four steals.
The first year forward, Orianna Edmond, registered her first double double in her Albright career tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gabby Boggs scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds and has now scored 10 or more points in 14 of 16 games this season.
Mackenzie Dover got the day started for Albright finishing the game with 12 points including three three's to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
