CHESTER, Pa. - The Albright College women's basketball team (11-6, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) extended their win streak to three games on Wednesday night with a victory over Widener University (5-12, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) on the road. The Lions won the game by a final score of 67-60 and have now won five of their last six.
The Lions jumped out to a 9-3 lead on seven straight points from Mackenzie Dover. The Lions got buckets from five different players in the first quarter on their way to a 23-16 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Amina Rauf and Lindsey Williamson both buried three's to start the second quarter to put the Lions up 10, 29-16. From there the defense ramped up for both teams forcing each side into tough shots from the floor.
Widener battled back and made it a one possession game at halftime, 33-31. Rauf scored 14 first half points leading Albright at the break.
Each team traded buckets in the early going of the third quarter. With four minutes left in the frame the Lions started to find their offensive rhythm again pushing their lead to nine ending the third quarter on a 10-6 spurt.
Despite getting outscored in the final quarter Albright dug in and handled their business to earn the win. An Edmond bucket with 3:28 left put the Lions up 12 and ultimately for good in the game. The Lions calmly stepped up to the free throw line down the stretch to help secure the 67-60 victory.
Rauf scored 19 points for Albright including three three's. The 19 points tied a game high for Rauf.
The reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week Dover had another fantastic game going for 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Edmond collected her second straight double double going for 14 points and 10 rebounds. The 14 points is a new career high for Edmond who scored 13 points against King's College (Pa.) on January 14.
As a team the Lions shot 53.8% from three and have continued to be one of the best rebounding teams in the MAC, out rebounding Widener 41-16.
