READING, Pa. - The Albright College women's basketball team (13-6, 7-3 MAC Commonwealth) has won five games in a row and completed the season sweep over Lebanon Valley (9-9, 5-4 MAC Commonwealth) tonight winning the game, 62-50.
The Lions struggled out of the gate offensively but quickly turned it around as the first quarter wore on. Albright found their rhythm going on a 11-0 run that stretched five minutes of the first quarter. An eight point margin at the end of the first saw the Lions in front, 19-11.
The defense ramped up in the second as there were just 23 combined points between the two sides. Gabby Boggs showed why she is the reigning defensive player of the year in the MAC Commonwealth controlling the paint. Boggs finished the first half with three blocks making LVC think twice about driving the lane.
Leading at the break, 31-22 Albirght looked poised for their fifth win. Boggs was just as good offensively in the first half going for eight points, four rebounds and three assists. Mackenzie Dover continued her strong play in the half leading the team with nine points.
Free throws were the story of the third quarter as each time looked to get to the line. The Lions were 80% from the charity stripe. Albright stretched their lead to 12 midway through the quarter and would maintain a healthy lead throughout the third. The Lions led 48-37 after three.
Albright closed out the game in the fourth quarter not allowing the Dutchmen to mount a comeback of any sort. The 62-50 victory tonight completes the season sweep for Albright over LVC and the Lions have now run their season high win streak to five games.
Boggs was tremendous all night on both ends of the floor. The Senior forward poured in 17 points, collected 13 rebounds (13th double-double), three assists and three blocks all while playing 39 out of a possible 40 minutes.
Dover continues to be a bright spot for the Lions scoring 15 more points tonight, hauling in 13 rebounds (ties a career high) and three assists. Dover also played nearly the entire contest this evening.
Julia Zakovitch was huge off the bench for Albright scoring a career high 12 points and grabbing three rebounds, all of which were offensive.
