GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Albright College women's basketball team (13-7, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) came into today's game riding a five game win streak but could not extend the lead to six falling to Messiah (18-2, 11-0 MAC Commonwealth) on the road, 55-41.
The first quarter was a defensive battle with each team struggling to find their offensive form. Gabby Boggs scored four points in the first quarter to give Albright an 8-6 lead after one.
Strong defensive play continued throughout the first half and the second quarter by both teams. Despite holding Messiah to under 39% shooting from the field in the second quarter, Albright trailed at the break 21-15.
Boggs was efficient in the first half scoring six points on 50% shooting from the field. The graduate student forward played all 20 first half minutes and added four rebounds and two steals to her six points.
Messiah built up there in the third quarter and led 41-25 after 30 minutes.
The Lions trimmed their deficit to 10 down the stretch but the comeback bid was not meant to be falling to the Falcons 55-41.
Boggs led the way for Albright today doing it all going for 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and four steals. Orianna Edmond chipped in with 13 points for Albright and grabbed five rebounds.
Despite today's loss, Gabby Boggs moves up to third all time for points scored in Albright's program history. Boggs now has 1,378 career points and is already the leading rebounder in program history.
