Men’s Basketball Furious Comeback Bid Falls Short at Messiah

The Albright men’s basketball team nearly came all the way back from eight down with less than a minute left but the comeback bid fell short dropping the MAC Commonwealth contest 73-69.

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Albright College men's basketball team (7-12, 4-7 MAC Commonwealth) was in action on the road and dropped a road match to Messiah ( 9-11, 4-7 MAC Commonwealth) after a furious comeback bid fell just short.

Robert Mangum started the game for the Lions from deep draining too quick three's to give the Lions the early lead.

Albright maintained a two possession lead for a majority of the first half due in large part in getting to the free throw line. Albright was a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line in the first half led by Eric Chamberlain who went 5-5 from the line.

A late three by Zyon Grant had the Lions training by one at halftime, 37-36. Mangum led the Albright scorers at halftime with eight points.

The second half was back and forth throughout seeing neither team gaining a sizable lead.

Picking up with less than a minute to go the Lions trailed by eight. A forced turnover combined with Messiah missed free throws Albright cut their deficit down to just two with 34 seconds to play. Ultimately, the late furious rally by Albright came up short and the Lions dropped the MAC Commonwealth road contest 73-69.

Jordan Guerrero came off the bench and led all Albright scorers with 17. The Senior guard also hauled in a season high 13 rebounds in the process.

Mangum scored 14 for the Lions and Chamberlain had 13 points to round out the Lions in double figures.
