READING, Pa. - The Albright women's basketball team (7-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) was in action tonight for the first time since December 20 hosting York College of Pennsylvania (4-9, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) in a MAC Commonwealth clash. The Lions took control early and showed no signs of a long lay off, never looking back earning their second straight win by a final score of 70-57.
The Lions came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. Albright had three steals and three made baskets in the first three minutes of the game. The early dominance forced York College into an 30-second timeout.
The lead at the end of the first quarter grew to 20 points for Albright who held a 25-5 advantage. The Lions shot 60% from the field in the first quarter helping them to an early sizable lead.
Second quarter action played similarly to the first where Albright controlled the game both offensively and defensively. Playing inspired Albright held York College to just three made field goals in the second quarter.
The lead for Albright grew to as many as 23 points in the second quarter propelling them to a 37-15 halftime lead.
Amina Rauf poured in 10 first half points including two three pointers leading the offensive charge for Albright.
The Spartans of York College made a little noise climbing back into the game in the third quarter outscoring Albright 18-12.
In the fourth York College was able to cut their deficit to under 10 points only trailing by eight, 55-47.
Rauf decided to take matters into her own hands down the stretch, nailing big three after big three in the waning minutes of the contest. In all, the graduate student scored 10 points alone in the fourth quarter securing the MAC Commonwealth win for Albright, 70-57.
Rauf finished the game with 22 points (four threes), three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Mackenzie Dover filled up the box score tonight tallying 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Gabby Boggs rounded out the Lions in double figures with 12 points and added seven rebounds and three steals to her stat line.
Lauren Pool was fantastic off the bench tonight for the Lions registering six points and eight rebounds.
