WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Albright women's volleyball team (13-8) played in their final tri-match of the season on Saturday (Oct. 21) competing against King's College (Pa.) and Rutgers-Newark. Today's tri-match was hosted by King's College (Pa.). The Lions swept the tri-match over Rutgers-Newark and King's College (Pa.) giving them their 14th and 15th wins of the season.
With the two wins this afternoon the Lions have now tied the most wins in a single season since the 2009 campaign. Additionally, the Lions moved to an impressive mark of 9-1 in tri-matches this season.
Albright 3 // Rutgers-Newark 1
Albright got off to a hot start in their opening match taking the first set of the day 25-15 over Rutgers-Newark.
Rutgers-Newark would battle back to take the second set to tie the match at 1-1.
The Lions turned up the heat in the next two sets winning both sets, comfortably and ultimately winning the match in four sets.
Sophie Hampton could not be stopped in the first game of the day going for a game high 16 kills. The 16 kills mark Hampton's sixth double digit kill game of the season.
Neve Straff was just behind teammate Hampton recording 15 kills of her own. Hampton and Straff both recorded double digit digs tallying 11 and 16, respectively.
Rachel Etim and
Elle Haddon both tallied nine kills each while
Zayna Jamaladdin tallied a career high eight kills.
Ryenn Mamrosch tallied 29 kill assists in today's opening match.
Albright 3 // King's College (Pa.) 2
Today's thrilling five set win over King's was the first victory over the Monarch for the Lions since the 2015 season. The Lions battled back from a two sets to one deficit to take the match over the Monarchs. Albright opened the fifth set with a 10-4 run to propel them to victory.
Hampton kept the good vibes rolling into the second game beating her first match mark in kills recording 18 kills in game two. Hampton's impressive kill mark in game two ties a season high.
Rachel Etim put together one of the best games of her career for the Lions, tallying a new career high in kills with 17. For good measure Etim also had three service aces, five total blocks and four digs.
Neve Straff recorded her second double digit kill game of the day tallying 11 kills against King's College.
Lindsey Korn had 23 digs and two service aces.
Ryenn Mamrosch was strong for the Lions in the second game going for 13 digs and 29 assists in set number two.

The volleyball team will head to Messiah University on Tuesday, October 24 for a MAC Commonwealth showdown against the Falcons. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
