Football Hosts Widener In 72nd Rajah Shrine Pretzel Bowl

The Albright College football team returned to their home turf on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon hosting Widener in the 72nd Rajah Shrine Pretzel Bowl.

READING, PA. - The Albright College football team (0-7, 0-6 MAC) was in action on Saturday afternoon hosting Widener University (5-2, 4-2 MAC) in the 72nd Rajah Shrine Pretzel Bowl. The Pride from Widener University took today's game over Albright by a final score of 48-3. 

After today's game, Montez Ellis Jr. was named Pretzel Bowl MVP for his performance in the return game for Albright.  

Ellis Jr. racked up 145 return yards on punts and kickoffs. Ellis Jr. broke off multiple electrifying returns highlighted by a 50-yard kickoff return for Albright. Ellis Jr. averaged 36.25 return yards on four attempts this afternoon. And for good measure, the first year tailback averaged five yards per carry on the ground. 

Widener Jumped on the Lions scoring 13 in the first quarter and taking a 34-3 lead into halftime. 

Dean Severin scored for the Lions in the first half drilling a lost distance field goal marked at 51 yards. Severin put the ball straight through the uprights, getting Albright on the board. 
The Pride of Widener University used the first half to their advantage to win the game over Albright 48-3 at Shirk Stadium. 

Matthew Creeger looked to spark the Lions this afternoon in the passing game recording a game high six receptions. The six catches in today's game marked a new career high for the first year wideout and are the most receptions in a game for any Albright player this season. 

The Albright defensive unit was led by K.J. Stewart who broke up two passes and recorded four solo tackles including a tackle for loss. DeOndre Banks played well today making seven total tackles, two of which going for tackles for loss. 

Banks, Darien Osmun, Zach Halenda, Luke Wellman and Sebastian Robinson all recorded at least a half sack today for the Lions defensive unit.

Albright will begin a two game road trip next week against Misericordia on Saturday, October 28. The game will begin at 1 p.m. from Dallas, Pa.
